September 2010 - Run up Ben Nevis Challenge

Picture

The Ben Nevis Race is held every September, it challenges runners to ascend the 1,344m (4,409ft) mountain. The 16km course starts and finishes in Claggan Park sports ground - Fort William, Scotland.  The record time stands at one hour, 25 minutes and 34 seconds.  Can you beat it!

The challenge

Get on the treadmill and set the programme to manual. Start jogging to warm up, with the incline on one per cent for the first three kilometres. Then raise it to two per cent and increase it by one percentage point every kilometre so that it’s at five per cent at 6km. Then run for another 3km before raising it again to six per cent at 10km. Run for three kilometres before raising it to seven per cent at 13km, and run for another two kilometres. Now dig deep and notch it up to eight per cent for the final kilometre.

August 2010 - 3000 Press-up Challenge

Picture
Wanting to increase your upper body strength?

Take up this months challenge and see how much your upper body strength improves by carrying out 100
press-ups a day for the next month.  Over the period of this challenge you will really work your chest and triceps, and hopefully see an improvement in the number of reps-to-fail as you progress through the month.

The challenge

You must complete 3000 Press-ups within 30 days.  So this means 100 press-ups each day for 30 consecutive days.  You can attempt the 100 press-ups in as many goes as you like, as long as you complete the full 100 within that day.  Record the number of reps you carry out and total them up.  To compliment your chest you can work your back and biceps by doing 10 chin ups immediately after the press-ups.  Each day add one more chin up.

Good luck with this challenge!
